Cars coming from behind?

Manoeuvrering Safely in Traffic
Be particularly careful when you need to turn right across traffic. First you must make sure that there is nothing coming up behind you. Do not rely on your mirror only, as it may give a false impression of how far away things are. Secondly, remember that whilst it may look a long way off, a car coming up behind may be travelling a lot faster than you and might be upon you before you have safely got yourself to the apex of the road. Turn your head and look over your right shoulder to make doubly sure that no traffic is approaching from behind. If you are unable to judge the speed of things accurately it is much safer to find an alternative route or cross the road at a pedestrian crossing. Don't forget to use the correct signals in plenty of time for other road users to see and respond to them.
Be Seen and Heard
If you find yourself in a difficult situation don't forget you have hazard lights and a horn. Once you are confident that the danger has passed, don't forget to switch your hazard lights off again. You should only use the horn when you are moving and only to warn other road users that you are there. Do not use it to greet your friends on the pavement as this may cause confusion. Also, remember that it is illegal (not to mention anti-social) to use your horn between the hours of 11.30pm and 7am.
