Assessing your capabilities

Before you buy a powerchair or mobility scooter make sure you are capable of riding it safely.
- Can you see well enough to be safe?
- Can you confidently control your chosen vehicle?
- Can you turn your head well enough to see what's coming up behind you or when you need to reverse?
- Are you able to use the mirrors to see behind?
- Do you know how to go up and down kerbs safely?
- Do you know how to turn safely?
Getting instruction on riding your scooter
If you are at all unsure about any of these things, get one of our mobility advisors to give you a personal assessment. They will also be able to give you instruction on how to ride your new machine safely.
Even if you have driven a car in the past you will benefit from some instruction - driving a car is not the same as riding a scooter and there are lots of things you may not have thought of, especially with regard to riding on the pavement.
