Where do I want to go?
Ask yourself the question: If I could go anywhere I wanted, any time I wanted, without having to rely on other people, where would I go?
Here are some examples of places you might like to go, and things you might like to do. You can probably think of lots more!
- Visit friends and family
- Nip down to the pub
- Post a letter
- Attend church regularly
- Go to the doctors
- Feed the ducks in the park
- Help with charity work
- Do your own shopping
- Do shopping for someone else
- Visit the theatre / cinema / art gallery
- Go to the library
- Visit the zoo
- Attend a day centre
- Classic car shows
- Car boot sales
- Play Bingo
How can I get there?
Once you’ve got a clearer picture in your mind of the places you’d like to visit, consider the terrain that you will have to cross to get there.
- Are there lots of steep hills involved?
- Will you have to go on the public highway at all?
- Are you likely to need to go across rough terrain?
- What is the nature of your mobility problem?
- Can you stand?
- Can you walk (if so how far)?
- Do you have any other health issues you think we may need to take into consideration?
- What sort of terrain will you be going over?
- Are you looking to use the machine on the road, or will it be more of a 'pavement shopper'?
Will I be comfortable on it?
- What is your height?
- What is your weight?
- Does your weight vary much?
- Are you right or left handed?
- When sitting, can you bend your knees without discomfort?
- Do you suffer from pressure sores?
Where can I store it?
Mobility scooters must be kept in a dry environment. They do not mind getting caught in the rain, they don't mind going through puddles but on no account must they be kept in the back garden under a tarpaulin on a damp November morning. Condensation can get into the machine and short out the circuit boards. Ideally the mobility scooter will be kept in the garage, the conservatory or even indoors, in the hallway ensuring you have sufficient room to get past in an emergency. If none of the options above are suitable, we can supply you with a
mobility scooter shelter.
